Jameela at The Melanated Therapist emphasizes understanding the weight that comes with navigating the world as a Black woman and the generational struggles carried by many in communities. Rooted in both lived experience and clinical training, she is dedicated to creating a safe, affirming space where clients feel seen, heard and supported in their healing journey. Individual Therapy

Jameela believes in molding sessions to fit the clients needs. No matter what challenges are brought from anxiety, depression, general stress and fears from daily life obstacles.

THERAPY

Jameela offers couples therapy for couples that may be struggling with infidelity, communication or life challenges such as distance or finances and works to bridge the barriers within the dialog for parties to be able to hear each other effectively.

Consultations and assessments to support individuals, families, and professionals in understanding mental health, parenting capacity and psychosocial needs. Services include comprehensive evaluations, clinical consultations, and clear recommendations tailored to each client’s unique situation.

  • Therapy is a a space that is confidential and nonjudgemental, that teaches you how your mind, emotions and behavior work in everyday life. Therapy is not a quick fix but a collaborative journey that requires time and effort. The therapist is a trained professional whose role is to listen with empathy, curiosity, not to judge or dictate. You can be completely honest without worrying about hurting their feelings or damaging the relationship.

  • The cost of therapy can vary from clinician to clinician based on skills set, expertise, location, and other factors. The No Surprises Act is a law meant to protect consumers and ensure that you do not have any surprise medical bills. Here is what you can expect to see for therapeutic services from the Melanated Therapist

    Consultation: Free often ranges from 15-30 minutes

    Individual Therapy: $120 for 50 minutes

    Couples/Family Therapy: $170 for 50 minutes

    Group Therapy: Often ranges from $40-60 per person depending upon the group.

    Sliding scale is available with specific criteria. I believe everyone is entitled to mental health care.

  • Yes! What you share with a therapist is legally required to be kept confidential with a few legal exceptions:

    • Immediate threat of harm to self or others,

    • Suspicion of child or dependent elder abuse

    • In the case of a court subpoena. We’ll discuss all of this and other office policies during your initial intake session.

  • My cancelation policy is 48 hours prior to the scheduled appointment cancellations are allowed and can be managed in the online client portal (Mindful Therapy or Simple Practice). This is to allow time to fill spots with other individuals who may be waiting.

    I do charge a $100 fee for any missed sessions not cancelled at least 24 hours in advance. This fee is automatically charged the day of the missed session.

  • The short answer is yes, I do accept insurance but only through my contract with Mindful Therapy Group. Mindful Therapy Group allows me to accept the following insurances Aetna, Cigna, Kiaser WA, Kiaser Northwest, Regence, PacificSource, Premera Blue Cross, and United

    • I do not work with people under the age of 12 yrs old.

    • I do not provide treatment for eating disorders, drug and alcohol or substance abuse issues. These are specialized focuses that I do not have specific training and licensure for. I do work with clients that have been in relationships with parties that suffer from substance abuse.

    • I do not work with sexually aggressive youth/adults or specialized behavioral issues.

    • I do not prescribe medication or participate in medication management however, I can coordinate care with your PCP or psychiatrist. Additionally, if you are looking for medication management I can refer you to Mindful Therapy Group for a prescriber.

    Due to state licensing laws, I can only provide therapy and counseling to individuals residing in Washington State.

  • Typical sessions are 50 minutes which includes a few minutes to review initial session update questions, check the upcoming schedule and to collect payments if necessary.

    Therapy is an individual experience so each person’s therapy treatment is different. Some individuals find just a few sessions helpful while others attend more frequently or for longer periods.

    Through the process we will determine the best options for you, your schedule and financial realities. The idea is for you to make progress and not need therapy as regularly as you once did. However, you are always welcome to come back in the future if circumstances arise that would make it a beneficial support.
